The Siege of Tilburg suggests a situation where people definitely do not want to live. But in many places in the world, people know the situations described in this blog all to well.
As Building told me, I went to the Stadhuisstraat to see if 'The End' is near. I found out it depends on how you look at it. Anyway, this street and terraces are at least temporarily safe from snipers on Stadhuisplein.
